The effect of MgSO4 on radiation-induced brain inflammatory reaction of SD rats in the early stage
In order to ivestigate the effect of magnesium sulfate (MgSO,4,) on the inflammatory reaction, the whole brain of SD rats were irradiated with a dose of 20 Gy so as to establish radiation-induced brain injury model. The expression of intercellular surface adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) was measured serially with enzyme linked immunosorbnent assay (ELISA) and the activity of myeloperoxidase(MPO) in brain tissue was measured by the absorption spectrometry at 1, 7, 14 days after irradiation. The expression of ICAM-1 and the activity of MPO in brain of rat irradiated with 20Gy increase markedly. MgSO,4, can singificantly down-regulation the expression of ICAM-1 and the activity of MPO of the irradiated rats, and reduce tissue cell denaturalization and inflammatory cell infiltrate observed by use of light-microscopy. MgSO,4, used in the early stage after irradiation could reduce the inflammatory reaction and protect brains from radiation injury.
