Two asymmetric aromatic ethers complexes of cyclopentadienyliron hexafluorophosphate were prepared, which are p-methoxyl diphenylether complex of cyclopentadienyliron hexafluorophosphate(Fc-OE) and p-chloro diphenylether complex of cyclopentadienyliron hexafluorophosphate(Fc-ClE). The UV-vis absorption of two ferrocenium salts revealed that they could be used for photo-initiator with light above 300—550 nm because of d-d* transition of the complexes. The fluorescence spectra showed that Fc-OE had stronger emission than that of Fc-ClE. The photo-initiation abilities in photo-polymerizing the diglycidyl ether of the bisphenol-A epoxy (E44) oligomer using a halogen lamp were evaluated by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. The results show that the photo-initiation ability of Fc-ClE with the electron-withdrawing chloride atom is better than that of Fc-OE.
