A microwave treatment has been developed for bleaching wheat straw pulp by sodium hypochlorit. Effective factors on pulp bleaching, such as microwave power and irradiation time, and amount of sodium hypochlorite added, were studied. Over 77% ISO of pulp brightness from 2 gram dry pulp could be achieved by adding in it 10mL sodium hypochlorite and operating the microwave oven at 352W for 2 minutes, whereas the same effect could be achieved with 40 minutes of water bath. In addition, the microwave treatment is a water-saving process in comparison to water bath treatment.
