DNA single — and double — strand breaks of peripheral blood lymphocytes in mice induced by γ rays irradiation were detected by neutral and alkaline comet assay. The results indicated that γ rays caused the increase of DNA migration length in the lymphocytes in a dose —dependent manner. It should be noted that comet assay can be applied not only to monitor DNA single and double strand breaks in vivo or in vitro,but also to serve as a new biological dosimeter.
