According to data in literature and the author's work, we discussed following topics:1) Changes of VE content in cells after irradiation; 2) Effects of VE deficiency on radiation-induced lipid peroxidation; 3) VE protection against radiation-induced lipid peroxidation; 4) Application of VE to the prophylaxis and treatmemt of radiation damage. The results of experiments showed that VE content in cells decreased after irradiation; VE deficiency increased cell sensitivity to radiation-induced lipid peroxidation; and VE Could efficiently protect cells against radiation-induced lipid peroxidation. But, the effects of its experimental clinical application to radiation damage were inconsistent, there were possitive as well as negative effects. The authors analysed the possible causes which produced the different effects.
