This work has made an explorotary study on photocrosslinking of LDPE as an insulating material. The kinetic character of photocrosslinking of LDPE in the melt, the enhanced photocrosslinking efficiency and mechanism of photoinitiating system, and the condition of reaction affecting the crosslinking processes, such as irradiation temperature and UV light intensity etc., have been studied in this paper. The crosslinking density, homogeneity of crosslinking and some physical properties of photocrosslinked products were examined. The results obtained show that the techchnique of photocrosslinking of LDPE in the melt is quite promising for the manufacture of wire and cable.
