In this work by using XPS, infrared spectrometer, the measurement of gel content and radiation induced weight loss, the radiation effects and its temperature dependence of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) were studied. The obtained results show that in low dose range the increase in radiation temperature favors radiation crosslinking reaction of the polymer. Under high temperature, the unsaturated structure in PVDF are mainly formed through the further dehygrofluorination of crosslinking and/or branching structures, whereas under the low temperature the dehygrofluorination of fluoro-carbon radicals to form more stable polyene radicals is responsible for the observed CF structure in C-ls spectra and double bonds shown in IR spectra.
