Polyethylene oxide/Polyvinyl alcohol composite hydrogels were prepared by ,60,Co γ- radiation from PEO and PVA solution mixtures. The effect of radiation on the shear modulus and swelling degree was studied. The results show that the shear moduli of the composite hydrogels increase with the increase of radiation dose, but the swelling degree decrease with the increase of radiation dose. Also, composite hydrogels with high shear modulus and low swelling degree can be obtained from high concentration mixtures. The experiment result also shows that under certain radiation dose and certain concentration of mixture composite hydrogel with higher PVA ratio has higher shear modulus and lower swelling degree.
