One-electron reductions of 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PhQ) in aqueous solution have been studied using pulse radiolysis. In this paper, we present the absorption spectra of PhQ semiquinone anionic and neutral forms, pK,4, of the semiquinone neutral form and one-electron reduction potentials of PhQ at neutral pH. We have also studied the formation and kinetics of the semiquinone. The bimolecular rate constants of e,4q,-, and (CH,3,),2, COH with PhQ and the decay rate constants of PhQ semiquinones are obtained.
