The absorption spectra of N-4-desmethylwyosine (dYt), a derivative of the tricyclic modified nucleoside wyosine, in aqueous solutions were studied by time-resolved laser photolysis. The oxidizing radical SO,4,·-, was used to produce dYt radical cation. The mechanism of dYt monophotonic ionization was suggested. Distinct triplet was not observed in this work. The quantum yield of formation of hydrated electrons (Φ,e,-,) was determined to be 0.04 at room temperature in neutral aqueous solution by using KI solution as a reference.
