To assess the usability of serum AXL as a possible biomarker for acute radiation exposure, the baseline level and variations induced by radiation of serum AXL were analyzed. Three hundred male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into radiation groups (n=240) and the control (n=60). After 60Co total-body irradiation at the dose of 1, 3, 5 or 7 Gy respectively, mice were sacrificed and their serums were collected at 24, 48, or 72 h separately. Serum AXL concentration were then analyzed by antibody array. The results suggested that baseline level of serum AXL expression hold steady (186.3±44.20) pg/mL. Moreover, serum AXL concentration is inversely related to the radiation dose within 72 h after exposure. This study uncovers a strong correlation between serum AXL concentration and radiation dose, and serum AXL has a consequential ability to estimate radiation exposure as biomarker.Cited
